China on Tuesday completed the construction of the country's first independently developed trial line using rare earth permanent magnetic levitation (PML) technology in Xingguo County, east China's Jiangxi Province. The Xingguo maglev line, about 800 meters long, was built with a designed maximum speed of 80 kilometers per hour and a handling capacity of 88 people.
This is the first time PML technology has been applied to rail trains. The new rail transit mode follows its predecessors, the electric-magnetic suspension (EMS) maglev and electrodynamic suspension (EDS) maglev.
